What is CBD?

Cannabidiol (CBD) is a naturally occurring compound found in the resinous flower of the cannabis plant. It is one of more than a hundred phytocannabinoids, which are unique to cannabis and give it a robust therapeutic profile. It is derived directly from the hemp plant, which is a cousin of the marijuana plant, both strains of Cannabis. Unlike marijuana, hemp contains no more than .3% THC, tetrahydrocannabinol, the main psychoactive compound which is found in higher concentrations in marijuana and causes the “high” sensation.

Is CBD addictive?

CBD exhibits no effects indicative of any abuse or dependence potential.

Is it legal for me to use CBD topicals in my practice?

Under the Farm Bill or Agriculture Improvement Act of 2018, cannabis was removed from Schedule I of the Controlled Substance Act making hemp and CBD sourced from hemp, legal on a federal level – across all 50 states (some exceptions in individual sates ID, SD and NE). CBD can have no more than 0.3 percent THC to be legally sold in the U.S.
